The best place to look is the dspace wiki (wiki.dspace.org), and to
monitor the list you just posted to (dspace-devel), which is devoted
to development issues, including the emerging DSpace 2 platform.
As to a list of changes, there currently isn't a feature list per se. DSpace
2.0 is really a new architectural platform, not a set of features that
will be added to the current DSpace. It certainly has goals - which include
better support for preservation tools and strategies, better scalability,
and a design that is much easier to customize.
We are also of course committed to ensuring that DSpace 2 maintain functional
parity with the existing DSpace, and allow for a smooth transition from one
platform to another, for those wishing to do so.
Right now DSpace 2 is in the 'prototyping' stage, where various developers
have taken a stab at certain aspects of the system, and produced small
software realizations to demonstrate, and allow critique for, design
principles. A few are already posted on the wiki, and we encourage anyone
to download, work with them, and extend or offer criticism of them.
As for the time-frame, it is premature to expect a firm date, but considerable
effort is being put into the designs I mentioned, and we hope to have some
consensus on underlying technology choices in the nexst few months. After
that, how soon a full-fledged DSpace 2.0 will appear will depend on what
community resources can join with us to build it.
Hope this helps,
