Hi All,

I'm not sure that setting up a Google Calendar answers the question(s) here.  Obviously we could setup a Google Calendar, but unless everyone (Committers especially) is using/subscribed to that calendar, it won't do us much good.

The questions/comments I had in yesterday's developers meeting were simply the following:

(1)  Is everyone in general agreement around the "Maven Project Consolidation" work being done for 3.0?  (FYI - this work is described at https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-1144 and an early version of the work is in https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/5 ).  Was this question asked at OR12 (i.e. was this work "approved" there or a consensus achieved)? Or do we need to still ask for approval/vote?  (If it was already approved, then we can skip over this, obviously)

(2) Assuming the consolidation work is "approved", I think we need to schedule it to be *committed* on a specific date.  Obviously this work will involve moving around many directories/source code, so it should preferably happen *after* most other Pull Requests are committed, but *before* the 3.0 RC1 release.  It is important that we choose a specific date & let the Committers know beforehand, so that no one else is attempting to commit bug fixes or other small changes at the time in which this work happens (Plus we want to encourage everyone to get outstanding Pull Requests committed/merged before this date).  I had suggested scheduling this consolidation work to be committed on Friday, Sept 14 (one week before 3.0-RC1, so that we have time to do cleanup/testing before RC1 should anything get accidentally broken).

(To touch back on the Google Calendar stuff -- I'm OK with setting up a Google Calendar, just noting that not everyone seems to be using it.  If we felt it was useful and others agreed they would use it, then we can obviously get this all added into an actual Google Calendar, whether hosted via DuraSpace or not.)

One thought, could we setup a google calendar or use the Duraspace calendar to schedule dates / deadlines?

Hi, I remember this idea being discussed at OR12:

"Mark Diggory would like to do some Maven restructuring/refactoring, which
makes the most sense to do as part of the RC release process,
post-feature-freeze, so as to minimize the impact on active development."

The topic came up at today's dev meeting, and todonohue commented:

"I think my question here was what does "post-feature-freeze" mean?  Do we
want to set a more specific deadline to ensure we have time to do a bit of
basic tests before 3.0RC1?  Also, I notice that statement says "Mark
Diggory would *like* to do...", which I wasn't sure if that implied it
gathered widespread approval yet or not?"

Further discussion on this took place at today's dev mtg, you can see the
transcript here:
http://irclogs.duraspace.org/index.php?date=2012-08-22

I think the gist of the conversation is: we've already approved this
project, a pull request for the work exists, but is a bit stale, timing of
a future application of any pull request of this nature needs to be made
clear. I think based on the discussion and prior votes/discussion, it
looks like the Maven Project Consolidation will proceed, and it will
likely occur after the "pull request" deadline. However, we should set an
official time for when it might be applied, and publicize this date.

Thoughts?
