Hello Ard,
There is no problem with using an apache user or group to run DSpace.  We suggested using a 'dspace' user because many people think of running applications as root, which is not a good idea most of the time.

Subject: [Dspace-tech] (no subject)

I have configured Dspace on Redhat 9.0, using apache+ssl+tomcat-4.0.6

Though in Apache configuration, I have used User
and Group as Apache (as against the suggestion to
use dspace user).  It is working.  Will there be
any side effects for this.  The problem is, if I
change the user, group as something other than
apache many of my other software do not work
(e.g. squirrelmail).  Please let me know.
