1) Open DrPython
2) Move to /usr/bin (or other directory with a lot of files in)
3) Change file type drop down to "All Files(*)"
4) DrPython hangs while trying to list files.

For what I saw from your posted weblink, DrPython takes a long time, but it comes back with a list of files?
In DrPython: Preferences:=> File Dialog: Do you use the wx.FileDialog, then it is a native Dialog of gtk or windows, and one has no influence to it. Does it make a great difference, if you use wx.FileDialog or the DrPython File Dialog?
I tested it by displaying all files in /usr/bin. It took long but at last I was successful to display file list.
Using wx.FileDialog, it took just some seconds, it was definitely quicker.
it takes a lot of time, but it is working.
