Sorry about the perverse sounding Subject:. Anyway - I've been playing with the CVS trunk lately, and there's a weirdness I'd like to ask you all about. This happens whether I compile the source myself or if I use the precompiled Debian packages. I'm using the following stuff: V5 5500 (bought just before the new year, following the `SLI is almost done!!!' posts. Bugger.) SMP PIII 500, plenty of RAM. Linux 2.4.1, 2.4.2, 2.4.3 (take your pick). All works pretty well for the most part - I'm getting approx. 880 fps with gears (are the CPUs the bottleneck, or should I be getting better?) - but when I play UT, specifically UT with the Infiltration mod (although that shouldn't matter), every so often everything gets quite psychedelic. The sky has wonderous colours seen before only by Dr.Timothy Leary, and the fonts are fairly bizarre and unreadable. However, if I type `flush' at the console, everything returns temporarily to normality. Suggestions, questions and/or beer are always welcome! Alex |
