hi all. i'm new to this list and want to introduce myself: call me alex ;) so, here's my problem: my dri system works fine so far. i update the r200 drivers about every day but since 1 1/2 weeks i get strange hardlockups from my xserver. my screen blanks out and no entry is possible any more. just dead. i've even tried out to disable agp fastwrites in my bios. no changes. this gets so far that i have the same problem when commenting out the "Load glx" and "Load dri" entries in my XF86Config. i'm not sure about the origin of this problem, but the only thing i can think of is the radeon.o driver. _can_ there be hardlocks from other programs but from the ones that play around with my hardware? i blame it on the r200-driver because of its experimental status. what i don't understand, why it worked before and does not anymore? if noone has any suggestions i'll re-install X from the scratch. but i don't like too :(. here my sys-specs (if anything important is missing, please tell me): amd tb 1400 256MB infineon ati radeon 8500 64DDR ibm 80GB 7200rpm sblive window maker on xfree 4.2.0 on latest r200 drivers slackware 8.1 with recompiled 2.4.18 kernel (i've looked in every possible [known by me] log-file, but though my system just hardlocks, there's no time for writing error-messages i guess :) ) eNTi |

Are you saying that the dri locks up your system even when it isn't loaded??? Keith |
