That's because Makefile.linux was rename to Makefile. New snapshots (as
of yesterday) have an updated install.sh. Also note that as of yesteray
there is also a "common-<date>-linux.i386.tar.bz2" snapshot. You should
install it at least once. It's not going to change frequently, so later
installing new savage snapshots will be sufficient most of the time.

Why are you asking me? I don't use snapshots. ;-) CCing to dri-users.
Anyway, if the kernel module compiles I'd expect it to work as well. It
works here with 2.6.4 and DRI compiled from CVS.
The first AGP problem that everybody has on 2.6 kernels is that the
chipset-specific module for your AGP bridge is missing. I assume you
have loaded it? For example:
savage 46752 2
via_agp 5632 1
agpgart 25192 2 via_agp
If you can't make it work please supply more information such as kernel
log messages and XFree86.0.log.
