On Debian Sarge, using Dosbox .61 with kernel 2.6.9 with ck2
patchset applied. When I first run Dosbox, it opens a new window
and does nothing. Xkill can get rid of the window, but the process
remains in the background, eating 70 MB of memory. It cannot be
killed (in uninterruptible disk sleep). kill -9 won't work, nothing
does but a reboot. The second time it is run, it will at least start up
and can more or less run games.

It does not do this with kernel 2.4, and I don't remember that it
always did it with 2.6, but it has done it now with 2.6.8.1-ck9 and
2.6.9-ck2. When I get time I will try it with a vanilla kernel and will
compile .62 from source, but for now I was just wondering if this
is a known issue..

Do other sdl applications work ?

Do you have a joystick ?
Can you determine somehow (gdb for example where dosbox is
    waiting for) ?

The problem is unknown. I use 2.6.8 myself and there it
    works fine.
