[Felix Wiemann] > With some more logic, it would be possible for grid tables too, > wouldn't it? I don't think so. Grid tables are ambiguous that way. When writing/drawing a grid table, I invariably include a left & right margin in each table cell. The spec specifically allows for such margins, and the parser handles them transparently. How is the text in this cell aligned? +------+ | word | +------+ It's not centered! [David Goodger] >> This wouldn't make sense for anything but single one-line >> paragraphs per cell. > > With "make sense", you mean "useful" or "syntactically possible"? "Possible". Counter-examples: ===== ======================= row 1 if we try to make this right-aligned, it ends up looking like definition lists or bad indentation ----- ----------------------- row 2 here's one paragraph here's another the indentation above implies block quotes, not right alignment ===== ======================= >>> There has been a thread about adding classes for table rows and >>> columns, which would allow easier customization via CSS. It's a different use case, but a valid one. -- David Goodger <http://python.net/~goodger> |
