Hello Guys, I've been giving several presentations recently and S5 presentations created by docutils is my favoured slides format. This is because they are so easy to put on the web afterwards and print handouts from. I'd like to use a 'wireless presenter' with my presentations. Does anyone have any experience (positive or negative) of doing this with S5 presentations created with docutils? Is S5 enough of a standard that experience from people using other (non-docutils generated) S5 presentations will also apply to docutils? The main question I would like answered is, with Firefox can I use (or easily configure) a wireless presenter that will let me move forwards *and* backwards through my slides? Thanks Michael Foord http://www.manning.com/foord |

Yes. A standard presenter worked (almost) fine for me out of the box. The forward and back buttons mapped to arrow keys (left/right or up/down, can't remember). I used one at OSCON this year, and had only one issue. But it was a show-stopper which caused me to put the thing down and use the keyboard instead. My presenter has an up/down thumb toggle for forward/back, and pressing it as a button triggers a page reload (F5 key IIRC) -- i.e. it restarts the presentation at slide 0. After this happened twice, I stopped using the presenter. I've since solved the issue with some JavaScript that disables F5. I don't have the code with me, but I'll post it later. > Is S5 enough of a standard that > experience from people using other (non-docutils generated) S5 > presentations will also apply to docutils? The Docutils-generated S5 HTML is standard, so such experience should apply. However, please note that there are variants of S5 out there that are far more advanced than what's in Docutils, like S5 Reloaded (http://www.netzgesta.de/S5/), so YMMV. -- David Goodger <http://python.net/~goodger> |

Very helpful. The javascript to disable S5 might come in handy... Michael |
