The current default behavior of the writers is "bottom", which seems quite reasonable. So why not make sure that all writers use the same behavior and add an attribute align="bottom" as a default (and add that in the documentation), so that :: .. |img| image:: foo.png gives :: <substitution_definition names="img"> <image align="bottom" alt="img" uri="foo.png"> > "figure" directive: added specialized "align" option and attribute on > "figure" element. [Felix Wiemann] > What about adding a default align attribute for inline images? The > current default behavior of the writers is "bottom", which seems > quite reasonable. That's what "#IMPLIED" attributes are for. Their defaults are implied, to be determined by the processing system. > So why not make sure that all writers use the same behavior and add > an attribute align="bottom" as a default (and add that in the > documentation) But why? What would it gain us that we don't already have? I don't see the point. That's what stylesheets are for. Besides, aren't "align" attributes deprecated in modern HTML & XHTML? Not that I agree with all the W3C's decisions; there are some layout attributes that need to be in the markup. Perhaps we should be using "style" attributes instead. > LaTeX support will be implemented in the new writer. (The writer is > about 50% completed now.) Just covering our collective asses I guess ;-) Actually, it's just copied from the "image" directive description. And I don't find browser behavior predictable (one browser in particular; can you guess which? ;-). -- David Goodger <http://python.net/~goodger> |

Automatically the same behavior, without the Writer writer (no pun intended) having to worry to be consistent with the other Writers. > Besides, aren't "align" attributes deprecated in modern HTML & XHTML? Yeah, but I don't really care as long as it validates and as there is no practical reason to change it. >> LaTeX support will be implemented in the new writer. I don't want to flood Docutils-checkins with long useless mails and I don't want to have to sync changes from the trunk to the branch. And since I'm only adding files, it's easier to symlink them into the tree and use my local repository to keep track of changes. And after all, the use of the half-completed writer is rather low as long as it isn't at least roughly documented. I'll probably upload it Tuesday or Wednesday. >>> +``align`` : "left", "center", or "right" >>> + The horizontal alignment of the figure, allowing the image to >>> + float and have the text flow around it. Yeah, it was just a nice opportunity to have it in the quoting. :-) > And I don't find browser behavior predictable (one browser in > particular; can you guess which? ;-). I thought the behavior of this particular browser is at least *predictably* wrong. ;-) -- For private mail please ensure that the header contains 'Felix Wiemann'. http://www.ososo.de/ |
