dk-filter 0.4.1 & sendmail 8.13.7 can't seem to parse
something properly, or it lacks a usable error message.

what is the syntax error?

where is the syntax error?

ok, further testing reveals that contrary to what I thought
was happening it is not even trying to sign, and apparently
is in fact calling a lack of a signature a syntax error. I
would thus request an error message change to reflect that,
ie "no data or syntax error verifying signature" etc, thanks.

    < -----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----

if you use their script these lines need to be removed
before starting with the private key file that was created !

I don't have a problem signing with a private key that contains the tags you're describing.

Are you saying it just exits for you? Does it temp-fail when it tries to sign? Does anything get logged? Which version of OpenSSL are you using?
