Porting this should >be straightforward. You just need to add the contents of gsdjvu.mak >to contrib.mak and add the djvu device to DEVICE_DEVS16 Ah... right. I was wondering how MinGW did compile having all these "problems", but I should have read build script more closely instead assuming that att archive was used as a patch. Thanks for your reply, I wouldn't have made it otherwise :) So building this on Windows, is even more straitforward. And worth noting is that PDF is now accepted as input (unlike MinGW build) thus conversion process is much faster. Do you think you can include some of this info in your project readme? Here is complete diff with patched GhostScript, assuming user copied gdevdjvu.c in GS base folder: ============================================================================ C:\temp>diff -r c:\src\ghostscript-9.06 c:\src\gsdjvu\ghostscript-9.06 diff -r c:\src\ghostscript-9.06/base/contrib.mak c:\src\gsdjvu\ghostscript-9.06/base/contrib.mak 862a863,875 > ### ---------------- DjVu files ---------------- ### > > djvu_=$(GLOBJ)gdevdjvu.$(OBJ) > > $(DD)djvumask.dev : $(djvu_) > $(SETDEV) $(DD)djvumask $(djvu_) > > $(DD)djvusep.dev : $(djvu_) > $(SETDEV) $(DD)djvusep $(djvu_) > > $(GLOBJ)gdevdjvu.$(OBJ) : $(GLSRC)gdevdjvu.c $(GLGEN)arch.h > $(GLCC) $(GLO_)gdevdjvu.$(OBJ) $(C_) $(GLSRC)gdevdjvu.c \ > -DGS_VERSION=$(GS_VERSION) \ No newline at end of file diff -r c:\src\ghostscript-9.06/base/gdevdjvu.c c:\src\gsdjvu\ghostscript-9.06/base/gdevdjvu.c 84d83 < #include "gserror.h" diff -r c:\src\ghostscript-9.06/psi/msvc.mak c:\src\gsdjvu\ghostscript-9.06/psi/msvc.mak 947c947 < DEVICE_DEVS16=$(DD)bbox.dev $(DD)cups.dev $(DD)plib.dev $(DD)plibg.dev $(DD)plibm.dev $(DD)plibc.dev $(DD)plibk.dev $( DD)plan.dev $(DD)plang.dev $(DD)planm.dev $(DD)planc.dev $(DD)plank.dev --- > DEVICE_DEVS16=$(DD)bbox.dev $(DD)djvumask.dev $(DD)djvusep.dev $(DD)cups.dev $(DD)plib.dev $(DD)plibg.dev $(DD)plibm.d ev $(DD)plibc.dev $(DD)plibk.dev $(DD)plan.dev $(DD)plang.dev $(DD)planm.dev $(DD)planc.dev $(DD)plank.dev ============================================================================ I also assumed ps2utf8.ps is not needed with recent GS, and "-dProvideUnicode -dExtractText" is recommended instead? >Using digital on windows is a challenge because the shell script djvudigital >depends on the existence of a bourne shell interpreter and relies heavily on >piping binary data. It's not that it can't be ported to batch file, as it just maps it's own parameters to GhostScript parameters, so that it makes things easier to end user. I don't see anything special that can't be handled by batch file. >Please have a look at the files gdevpipe.c. This file define a postscript >IODevice associated with file names of the form '%pipe%command' or '|command'. >Such filenames are used by djvudigital to pass the data into csepdjvu. >I believe that the main issue under windows is to ensure that these files are >open in binary mode (not text mode). Yes, as already mentioned that issue is solved. MinGW, like Windows and unlike *nix, uses text mode for stdin by default, so provided patch is necessary to make piping from gsdjvu possible. What I'm curious now is how hard is to port AT&T code, so that it compiles with MSVC compilers? Patching GhostScript for MSVC is easy, after appending contrib.mak, only djvu devices needs to be added to DEVICE_DEVS16 in "psi/msvc.mak", but AT&T code isn't compatible for Windows. I corrected some syntax issues, like private function declarations, then commented explicit stdout/stderr calls, but then there is issue with memory allocator in gdevdjv1.c and that's too advanced for me as I'm not a programmer. Do you maybe have any suggestions in regards to this? |

I see this is very low freq list (1 mail in last 7 years?), but hopefully this message will not be in vain, as DjVu driver gives so good results. I also have impression that very few people know about it. "gsdjvu-1.5.tar.gz" can't be compiled with suggested GhostScript version on MinGW, but with latest version it can (at time of writing 9.06). This way GS interpreter still won't accept PDF input and pipes won't work. For fixing pipes this patch is needed: http://ghostscript.com/pipermail/gs-devel/2013-January/009382.html Here is explicitly: ================================================================================ diff --git a/gs/psi/gs.c b/gs/psi/gs.c index 530303b..3484654 100644 --- a/gs/psi/gs.c +++ b/gs/psi/gs.c @@ -62,6 +62,9 @@ commit_stack_pages( void ) } #endif +#include <stdio.h> +#include <fcntl.h> + int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { @@ -73,6 +76,9 @@ main(int argc, char *argv[]) commit_stack_pages(); #endif exit_status = 0; +setmode(STDIN_FILENO, O_BINARY); +setmode(STDOUT_FILENO, O_BINARY); +setmode(STDERR_FILENO, O_BINARY); /* * Call setlocale(LC_CTYPE), so that we can convert PDF passwords ================================================================================ Afterwhich "Makefile.in" from GS base folder needs to be copied in parent, or if user is in GS source top folder, this command will do it: cp base/Makefile.in . That's all! As mentioned PDF is not accepted as input for some reason but we can always pipe PS from another GS instance. Here is minimal example batch file (for more proper usage there is readme file in gsdjvu archive and djvudigital bash script): ================================================================================ gswin32c -sstdout=nul -dQUIET -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=ps2write -sOutputFile=- input.pdf ^ | gsdjvu -sstdout=nul -dQUIET -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=djvusep -sOutputFile=- - ^ | csepdjvu -v - output.djvu ================================================================================ |

Hi, I am using DjVu Reference Library 5.0 with VC 6.0. My task is to search english and japanese strings from the XML formated text extracted from DjvuImages. I am using search_string function of DjvuTXT. This function is working fine with english string and characters but its throwing exception with japanese strings and even with a single character. Please also tell me weather this function is capable of searching japanese characters horizontally and vertically. Can you please give me any suggestion how to do it. Looking forward for your response. I have placed at http://www.mimuw.edu.pl/~jsbien/publ/PJ06/ a sample PDF file, the result of its conversion with djvudigital, the output of the djvudigital command and, just in case, the output of gsdjvu compilation.. Although the man page says --words Extract the text from the PostScript code and incorporates this information into the DjVu file. the text has not been incorporated into the DjVu file. It has been fixed in the djvulibre cvs. The changed function in csepdjvu.cpp now reads: bool BufferByteStream::read_pair(int &x, int &y) { int c; x = y = 0; expect(c, "-"); if (! read_integer(x)) return false; if (c == '-') x = -x; if (! expect(c, ":")) return false; expect(c, "-"); if (! read_integer(y)) return false; if (c == '-') y = -y; return true; } |

Hi all, i'm trying to convert newstpaper pdf files to djvu while retaining text stream as metadata to allow search into djview application. I've compiled gsdjvu against gs 8.15 and installed it. Then using djvudigital using --lines or --words i get this error: *** msepdjvu: corrupted file (syntax error in text comment) *** (csepdjvu.cpp:1170) *** 'bool Comments::parse_comment_line(BufferByteStream&)' It seems like an encoding problem, but i don't know how to track it down, any hint is welcome| :) The text in the pdf was probably generated in a windows environment with charset windows-1251 (the win latin1 like charset) and the system where i compiled and where i'm using it has an utf-8 locale. Anyone had the same problem? Anyone has any hint of what can i do in order to complete the conversion process? thanks Alberto |
