I've just noticed the commit dd699f8282c4d042945fe48caa7d412230f51306 and I am
highly disappointed that the option (actually proposed by me) has been
removed without any justification. I still think it is quite usefull.
When you suggested this feature, you first proposed to have the hidden text
overlaid on the images, then settled for a display in the status bar. Now we
have the "hidden text" display mode which does what you initially wanted. I
tend to aggressively remove old code to facilitate future maintenance. Do you
have a use case that is not addressed by the hidden text display mode?
You are right that my original request was for hidden text display mode (htt
586), however the status bar display appeared quite convenient.
I think both functions have their uses. The status bar version allows you to
see *at the same time* both the image and the hidden text much more clearly
than the display mode (which is slightly cumbersome to switch on and off).
