Dave Schleef's announcement email:

Schroedinger-1.0.0

Schroedinger is an implementation of the Dirac video codec
specification, written with speed, stability, and maintainability in
mind. Schroedinger provides a software library that implements both a
Dirac encoder and decoder. Also provided is a GStreamer plugin. No
end-user tools are included, since it is intended that users will use
existing tools written using a media framework such as GStreamer for

IBC 2006

Dirac is present again at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam this weekend.

Where are we? EBU Village - Stand No 10.411a

What are we showing?

1080line HDTV compressed with Dirac at broadcast bit rate. We are using the BBC's HDTV trailer for a fair comparison (same material, same bit rate).
We are using the excellent new Pioneer 1080 line plasma display. If you haven't seen 1080 line HDTV on a 1080 line plasma (and the Pioneer is the only such plasma available and is new) come and look at the quality, and at how Dirac performs at the same time.... read more
