Hello, I am testing devil linux 1.4rc4 using vmware 5.5 workstation. I've added the cd iso as a bootable cd. When I start up the vm I select the usb flash drive I want to save config to but eventually get an error message saying the devil linux cd can not be found. I also tryed using a vm blank floppy image which was not recognised. Any suggestions would be great. thanks remus. |

Hey, running DL in VMWare works fine, so it's probably just some configuration issue. Here are a few pointers: - Set the CD-ROM to IDE and mount the ISO directly. - use the 1.44 MB floppy image for the config and let VMWare create the image right away (not sure if the old 5.5 let's you do that). - Make sure all the CD and floppy devices are set to 'connect at boot'. - Boot DL with the 'empty config' when it asks and then format the floppy. - Get the latest DL version from our FTP server, Sourceforge will have the RC6 within the next day. This was a nice mini how-to. But a question. Is it possible to write-protect the VMware floppy image in some way, like it is with some USB keys or physical floppies? > ----- Original Message ------ > From: Heiko Zuerker <he...@zu...> > Sent: Mon, 04 Oct 2010 07:44:58 -0500 > To: dev...@li... > Subject: Re: [Devil-Linux-discuss] vm ware trouble > > > Hey, > > running DL in VMWare works fine, so it's probably just some > configuration issue. > > Here are a few pointers: > - Set the CD-ROM to IDE and mount the ISO directly. > - use the 1.44 MB floppy image for the config and let VMWare create > the image right away (not sure if the old 5.5 let's you do that). > - Make sure all the CD and floppy devices are set to 'connect at boot'. > - Boot DL with the 'empty config' when it asks and then format the floppy. > - Get the latest DL version from our FTP server, Sourceforge will have > the RC6 within the next day. > > Heiko > > Quoting Stephen Butler <ste...@ho...>: > > > Hello, > > > > I am testing devil linux 1.4rc4 using vmware 5.5 workstation. > > > > I've added the cd iso as a bootable cd. > > > > When I start up the vm I select the usb flash drive I want to save > > config to but eventually get an error message saying the devil linux > > cd can not be found. > > > > I also tryed using a vm blank floppy image which was not recognised. > > > > Any suggestions would be great. > > > > thanks > > remus. > > -- > > Regards > Heiko Zuerker > http://www.devil-linux.org > > ---------------------------------------------------------------- > This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program. > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Virtualization is moving to the mainstream and overtaking non-virtualized > environment for deploying applications. Yes. Make it read-only on the host OS. (In other words, remove the hypervisors write access to the floppy image) Depending on your platform, this may be easier said than done as the ESX hypervisors ignores all permission settings on VMFS volumes. In that case store the floppy image in "Images" or on an NFS share. JJ -----Original Message----- From: mmc...@ox... [mailto:mmc...@ox...] Sent: 7. oktober 2010 15:57 To: dev...@li... Have just tried devil-linux with vmware workstation 6 (was using version 5) and I continue to have problems. Using real blank floppy disc - setup in vmware- connected at poweron Using virtual blank floppy image - connected at power on Using devil linux iso as the cdrom - connected at power on Devil Linux fails to mount the /dev/fd0 Devil Linux eventually gives an error that the devil linux cd can not be found.... This is odd as the iso image was found and used to load devil linux up to this point. I am using other linux based iso's with vmware with no problem, such as PING3.0 ; sys resuce cd ; ubuntu I guess that I will next try vmware 7 I can always try burning devil linux to cd, and trying that. Strange that it does not work so far. From: ste...@ho... To: dev...@li...
