Hello,

I want to wipe a SCSI disc in an older computer using
DBAN. I get the error message

<0>Kernel panic: Attempted to kill the idle task!
In idle task - not syncing

I get this error message, no matter which version of
DBAN i am using. The latest beta release does not
show this message, unless I use the nosilent option,
else DBAN hangs not saying anything.

Thanks in advance for your efforts.

Best regards,
Ralf Herrmann

Please provide hardware information. At a minimum, we must
know the manufacturer and model of the SCSI controller.

Please run the diagnostic from http://www.memtest.org/ on
    this computer.

If this computer passes the Memtest86+ diagnostic, then try
the latest DBAN beta on this computer.

If the beta release also panics, then start it with
"verbose" at the boot prompt and report the last few lines.
Photograph the screen with a digital camera and attach the
image if you can do so.
