Just a thought on this to hopefully make life easier. It seems to me some sort of structure needs to be setup. Structure for what you want the code changes/comments to look like and also at least a basic structure for sending you the test cases. The less you have to interpret the easier it should be for you to apply the patches, test the changes, and then hopefully the faster a new version can be rolled out.
