#darkbot - All purpose Darkbot Support channel. (*1)
##darkbot - User interaction with live bots. (*2)
##darkbot-unregistered - Dead End moderated channel where unregistered users/bots will end out after automatically being redirected/forwarded from #darkbot or ##darkbot. (*3)
Official and registered project bots have the nickname of <darkbot-*> being * the release code under testing or/and other Darkbot categories.
For instance, there is a <darkbot-help> for general questions and doubts from users; we are also implementing an already running <darkbot-dev> for developing contributors matters. Its purpose is bug tracking, feature requests, ideas and other contributors information. This bot would directly and lively interact with SourceForge categories areas, updating its database. The whole idea of this bot its by itself a feature which we believe would be greatly appreciated by all projects developers and managers.
The network should be accessed, among other servers, by:
chat.freenode.net
irc.freenode.net
- Your IRC Client is probably already set with Freenode so you could just select it from the Netwoks List; you could also connect to the network by writing in the text input box:
/server irc.freenode.net
(channels in detail...)
(*1) #darkbot - This presence in Freenode is for users support, contributors exchange of ideas and code testing. It's the main Darkbot channel @ Freenode. Feel free to take your bot to the channel in case you need to show any malfunction or test a feature you might need assistance with. You may want to remove it from the channel after assistance or in case you'd want it there don't be admired if we silence it, so we'll not have a Darkbot bot talk chaos or any argument among them - they are very talkative and possessive, at times.
(*2) ##darkbot - For users to interact with live bots; this channel would also be set up and frequented by users who want to have a glance at Darkbot functioning directly from their Internet browsers. A web IRC portal will be included in the web page, at http://darkbot.sourceforge.net , as soon as is completely implemented. Feel free to have your bot in there but don't be admired if we silence it in case it "talks" too much. Have in mind we have users with specific databases in their bots so you might want to see them acting in there - if you have a specific database bot and you would like to have it there we'll help you setting it up.
(*3) ##darkbot-unregistered - Although Freenode's being a free-access-to-all network (under some common sense guidelines), by principle and safety, whoever uses the services, should register a nick name.
( We strongly encourage everyone to do so, then, politely ask Freende's staff members at #freenode support channel for a cloak/virtual host which "hides" the real IP address and under normal circumstances would be applied immediately. )
However, some established project channels do not allow non-registered users to access them, due to abuses of all sort committed by badly intentioned people who hides beyond illegally obtained proxies, uses floodnets, warlike/malicious bots or scripts and other ways to perform Denial of Service (DoS or DDoS) attacks against the network servers or its unprotected users (by taking advantaged of exposed IP addresses), trying to "take-over" channels, sending massive unsolicited messaging and advertising or harassing people.
Non registered users are automatically redirected from #darkbot and ##darkbot to this channel which has some informative steps on what to do in order to regularize the situation.
Nevertheless, understanding that many of our users run their bots on other networks, we shouldn't difficult their eventual entrance in Darkbot channels for support just because they don't have a registered nick. Being so, on those Drakbot channels this feature/mode it's only automatically punctually activated in case of extreme necessity, under abnormal circumstances.
...
Under Freenode's Policies #Darkbot it's a registered Primary channel; ##darkbot and ##darkbot-unregistered are registered Non-Primary channels.
All channels run under Freenode's policies and guidelines and all positive common sense attitude and behaving in IRC.
