In fact, TGL did write a patch or two that accomplished this and a few
other adjustments to the Find/Replace dialogs. He submitted one to the
vim-dev list 18 Nov 2004.

I looked at the patch.  I'm not sure what it really does.  Does it just add support for an improved dialog with a checkbox for regular expressions, but not actually add such a checkbox?

I also checked out and built vim7, and I don't see any visual difference in the Find dialog.  Does vim7 include this improvement?  I looked at Bram's comments on the patch, and gui.c itself in vim7, and since in vim7 the code has been restructured a fair amount, I have a hard time following whether or not vim7 provides something functionally equivalent to TGL's patch, only implemented in a different way.

In short, I'd like some assurance that in a future release of Vim+Cream, this functionality is supported, so I can make note of progress on this.  Otherwise, all i can tell my other team members is "a patch was made for this, but I don't know if you'll ever really get the feature you want".
