It is not possible to access the religion screen with a Swedish keyboard setup. ^ is not a separate key, which is probably the problem. This has worked in previous versions of Stone Soup (although one had to hit the key twice), but not 5.2, where this keystroke ( Shift + ¨ ) does not yield any reaction at all.

Operating system: Tried in both Windows Vista and Windows 7 (RC)
Crawl version: 5.2 with tiles
Other notes: I am using a Swedish QWERTY keyboard. Since it makes room for three more characters, some keys are combined. ^, ¨ and ~are all the same key and all accessed with different keystrokes. Holding Shift while hitting the key is the way to get ^.

This is very strange, because '^' is shifted on the US standard keyboard layout too (namely Shift+6).

In previous versions, I too had to hit '^' twice although it's not a shifted key on German keyboards. This is no longer necessary in 0.6. Can't remember whether that was the case for 0.5.x.

I wasn't aware that '^' was shifted on US keyboards as well, I guess that throws my theory out of the window.

  • This (jpeg's at least) sounds like a dead-keys issue: after pressing ^, something (OS, X server, SDL) waits for another key, so it can combine ^i into î. Usually ^^ or ^<space> will give ^. Woebin: can you enter ^ in a plain text editor?

rvollmert: Yes, it's definitely not a keyboard issue as I've experienced the issue on multiple computers with different keyboards, and have verified that I can type ^ under other circumstances. Either way, it works in Trunk, so it's not a problem to me anymore.
