Feature Requests item #1449348, was opened at 2006-03-13 21:39 Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by Item Submitter You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=507162&aid=1449348&group_id=64347 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Jonathan Konrad (jonathankonrad) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Access through a repeater Initial Comment: Is there any way to add a repeater function? Ultra VNC works very well on windows and sets up well with a repeater function. This allows me to run the repeater on one machine that has web access. Then I can get at any machine on the internal network through the repeater. The only problem is that I need to do it on a windows machine. If I coud get chicken of the vnc to access a machine through a reapter that would be too cool. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=507162&aid=1449348&group_id=64347 |

The repeater is already setup. I used Ultra VNC repeater, since the gateway box is a win2k server (a client choice, not mine). The repeater is in place and allows me to use the Ultra VNC viewer on a pc to access any computer on their network from the web through the repeater. However, I prefer to use my powerbook. That means I would like to get Chicken of the VNC to connect to remote desktops throught the repeater. There doesn't seem to be an obvious way to do this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Kurt Werle (kwerle) Date: 2006-03-13 22:17 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=6449 The repeater doesn't look like anything more or less than a proxy. Which would let you proxy VNC, or anything else you might care to proxy. Looking at the ultravnc repeater code, it doesn't look like it does a whole lot. I don't suppose you've tested to see if it just works? And their built in java client doesn't work with the repeater? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jonathan Konrad (jonathankonrad) Date: 2006-03-13 21:23 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1475505 I must not have been clear. Right now I'm forced to using Ultra VNC inside of VPC on my OS X box. Speed is not great, but it works. I have limited access to change what is installed on the server. I'll look in to this more. I just thought it might be something that could be easily added to the Chicken. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Kurt Werle (kwerle) Date: 2006-03-13 22:45 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=6449 So, my advice would be instead of using the ultravnc option, to install an sshd on the gateway and use that. Have not contributed code in years - I'm just feeling chatty tonight. But I'm thinking that it should not be adding non-vnc-standard protocols for something there are standard network solutions to. Someone more official will come along and give you a more official answer, I'm sure. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jonathan Konrad (jonathankonrad) Date: 2006-03-13 21:59 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1475505 The java client does not work with the repeater and nothing I've tried with Chicken of the VNC seems to get it to work.
