Hi, I'm having a problem working with cotvnc using my belgian keyboard
(AZERTY). Both the host and the client machine are set to belgian. But I
get a QWERTY behavior. If I set my client machine keyboard settings to
US, then I get AZERTY on the host, but numeric keys only work only with
the shift key down.

This is giving me some headaches having to switch my keyboard settings
all the time. It gets even worse if I use cotvnc on one host to get access to
another host...

Oh, thanks, I hadn't realized that there were patches available. I'll try this as soon as I figure out how to appy *.patch files.

You can also try the binaries at http://www.cendio.se/~astrand/cotvnc/.

I downloaded the binary from http://www.cendio.se/~astrand/cotvnc/ but the keyboard setting remains US while my keyboard is set to german.

    >the keyboard setting remains US while my keyboard is set to german.

By this, you mean that A-Z is not on the correct keys? Or, that A-Z works correctly, but that other characters doesn't work?

Which VNC server are you using? The easiest way to debug these kinds of problems is to connect to a Linux host and run the "xev" command.

I mean that the keyboard layout that CotVNC sends to the server is US, most obviously distincted by the fact that the Z sign is made by pressing on the lower left key of the letterblock next to Z and the Y sign is made by pressing the key which is located between T and U. I further can't make any Ö's or Ä's and Ü's or ß's. The keyboard layout on my client machine is german, the keyboard layout on my server machine is also german, but the keyboard layout used by CotVNC seems to be unchangeably US.

In VNC, there's no concept of a keymap. The VNC protocol uses "keysyms", which are independent on which keymap you are using. So it doesn't make any sense to say "the keyboard layout that CotVNC sends". Keymaps are local to both the client and server, and they should be able to use different keymaps. If some key doesn't work, you need to figure out if this is a client or server problem. With the patch, CotVNC should work with any local keymap (and I and others have verified this with for example a Swedish keymap). So, if normal A-Z keys doesn't work, this is most likely a server problem. You still haven't told us which VNC server you are using.

I understand. Sorry for my not-even-half-knowledge. I use Vine Server on the server side.
