For the sight impaired or just old tired eyes, the preference to
enlarge or otherwise select from a set of cursors (shape, size
color) would be helpful even if performance hit. Thanks

This is sort of possible with the version in CVS. You can change the
cursor to whatever image you want and change the location of the hotspot
by editing the file Resources/cursors.plist.
