#71 Does not transmit 8+ character passwords

Networking (54)

For some reason trying to put my password into the Mac
OS X Server (10.3.4 and 10.3.5) login window, I can't
type anything past the 8th character in the password.
Same thing goes for authenticating when installing
files for admin privileges.

Switching to "VNCthing" on the same session allows me
to type in the remaining characters...

I have no idea what could be causing this, but given the new event
handling system in Chicken, it's probably fixed. This bug report will
disappear in 14 days unless the original poster posts back.

I don't know anything about the text fields in Chicken or this bug, BUT, I
thought it worthwhile to point out that the RFB protocol only "accepts" the
first 8 characters of any passwords. Which btw are never "transmitted"
anywhere but just used to decrypt a challenge key.

Anyhow, I would guess that the original code in CotVNC was intentionally
preventing passwords over 8 for this reason. It's up to you guys if you want
to think of it as a bug or "as designed", in OSXvnc we allow long passwords
but still only use the first 8 chars.

Good call, Jonathan, that's what's happening in Chicken - anything
beyond the first 8 characters is being truncated, which I think is fine as
    it conforms to the spec.

But that doesn't sound like the original bug report issue - it sounds like
the user is using an already-authenticated VNC session to try to type
his password into OS X's authentication dialog on the server machine,
and he can't get beyond 8 characters. I suspect his eighth character is a
    high-byte character.
