However- I would probably recommend fluxbox or something else lightweight over KDE and Gnome, as you are running it without any form of Graphics Acceleration, and the virtual network connections between windows and colinux will be flooded by graphics that are too fancy. The great thing about cygwin is you get ESD (the enlightened sound deamon) as well, so if you are sneaky, you can put all of those in a batch file from a desktop shortcut (I also like all the other stuff that allows you to run unix commands from windows). So once a Display Manager (XDM/GDM/KDM) is started, you can as above use the -query ipaddress command line at the end of it. There is definately a lot of information in the wiki about this. I will mount my windows part on my desktop later tonight, and pull out my batch file that handles most of this for you.
