Hello, I am trying to install and run coLinux on my machine. So far with 0 success. I am getting the following error: $ ./colinux-daemon.exe -c default.colinux.xml Cooperative Linux Daemon, 0.6.3 Compiled on Sun Feb 5 20:25:03 2006 error initializing daemon: exit code 84814401 daemon: error - CO_RC_ERROR_ERROR, line 81, file colinux/os/current/user/manager.o (36) Details: - My system runs Windows XP professional SP1. I have admin rights on this machine. I use cygwin's bash as shell. - I downloaded coLinux-0.6.3.exe and installed it in the default location, choosing to skip the root fs download. - I did not install winPcap, as I allready had this (via etherreal) - I downloaded both the gentoo root fs image: Gentoo-2005.1-stage3-ext3.bz2 - I downloaded a swap file from http://gniarf.nerim.net/colinux/swap/ I bunzip'ed them both using the bunzip2 that comes with cygwin. I renamed Gentoo-2005.1-stage3-ext3 root_fs and the swapfile swap_device I did not touch the default config file. I then started colinux for the first time, and it just wouldn't work. I did search the web to find out what the error message might mean. According to what I found this message means that some file is not found, and that I should check my config file for typeing errors. My config file is the one shipped. I asume it does not contain any typing errors. I do not have a colinux/os/current/user/ directory. Would that be the problem? I tried using the Debian root filesysten, and tried using different config files I found via the wiki. I got the exact same error mesage every time. I have the impression that the problem is not due to my config file, or the root_fs I use, but is something related to the colinux software itself. is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong? I have admin rights on > this machine. I use cygwin's bash as shell. You should open a simple command prompt, no cygwin shell. I have some times stared it with an (old) mingw environment, that works. Is Cygwin the problem? Try it on windows standard prompt. > I renamed Gentoo-2005.1-stage3-ext3 root_fs and the swapfile swap_device > I did not touch the default config file. You should edit the config file and set the path and filename to our file "Gentoo-2005.1-stage3-ext3" in type of windows file names C:\...\Gentoo-2005.1-stage3-ext3". The default config is not workable without changes. > I do not have a colinux/os/current/user/ directory. Would that be the problem? This is the source code and give us the exact position of your problem. The DeviceIoControl on driver fails. But I can not say what it is. Have you mixed differ colinux versions? Try these steps for cleen install: cd YourCoLinuxInstallPath colinux-daemon.exe --status-driver colinux-daemon.exe --remove-driver colinux-daemon.exe --install-driver Then check the status with colinux-daemon.exe --status-driver If that not helps, then reboot the PC between remove and install. > I tried using the Debian root filesysten, and tried using different > config files I found via the wiki. I think, you feel it right. You no need a configfile for quick start. Run this: colinux-daemon.exe kernel=vmlinux initrd=initrd.gz root=/dev/ram0 This runs without any images or swap files. You only need an installed colinux driver (linux.sys), the kernel file "vmlinux" and the ramdisk file "initrd.gz" in the current directory. -- Henry Nestler |
