Hi Guys,

Something wierd is going on with the colinux or maybe dbench is flawed. But look at this:

$ dbench -s -t 20 -D /ccache-and-var/temp/ 1
dbench version 3.04 - Copyright Andrew Tridgell 1999-2004
...
...
Throughput 101.985 MB/sec (sync open) 1 procs

$ dbench -s -t 20 -D /root/ 1
dbench version 3.04 - Copyright Andrew Tridgell 1999-2004
...
...
Throughput 6.60403 MB/sec (sync open) 1 procs

That's a huge amount of difference.

/ is an ext3 filesystem with defaults. 10GB, At least 6GB free.
/ccache-and-var/ is a reiserfs3 filesystem(mounted with noatime, notail) with block size 2K. 5GB, At least 4Gb free.

Both not actual partitions but virtual.

I deliberately did synch I/O with '-s' option. CPU usage with reiserfs went to 100%, but ext3 used only about 2%.

The xp is on an NVRAID with 2 raptors with Sisoft bench of 110MB/s.

So, what's happening here?

Thanks,
Sunil
