    Downloaded Debian-3.0r2.ext3-mit-backports.1gb.bz2
make mods for eth0, mem size and 1gb swap file
Installed colinux on win XP pro, network can ping
apt-get update and upgrade work ok
    tried to install x-windows:
    apt-get install xserver-xfree86
and colinux says broken packages unmet dependancies: x-server-org
    tried apt-get install x-server-org
colinux says unmet dependancies so I tried to get the next one etc.
finally get a message about LoopBreak so that e2fsprogs can be temporarily removed, enable this option and get messages about missing files.
Now colinux is broken won't respond to halt

      I tried
      apt-get -o APT::Force-LoopBreak=true dist-upgrade xserver-xfree86

this removed the e2fsprogs apparently but resulted in an error message (after KDE was installed and LOTs of other stuff too) that said: sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code <2>.  Halt doesn't work had to delete window.

You cannot install xserver(xfree86 or x.org) because colinux does not have access to the video card.

you can, however, install vncserver and use it as a simple X server.

      I checked the colinx wiki:

We need VNC to send the desktop of Linux to the Windows machine. As stated at the top of the page, you can find a VNC client at Real VNC: http://www.realvnc.com/. To install VNC server we need to install a few packages. Run:

      apt-get update

This will ensure apt-get has the latest package list.

      apt-get install xserver-xfree86

This will install Xserver, the X Window System display ser.....

also tried apt-get vncserver   linux said invalid operation

More info regarding this problem, tried to do an apt-get on gnu .... cause it wasn't included in the inital download.  Again program wanted to removed the e2fsprogs so I enabled the force-loopbreak option.... wound up with missing directories, and system won't respond to halt.  MAJOR QUESTIONS:  Is this root fs distribution flawed and not updatable AND does it purposely not contain any useful programs ???  Is there a magic program I should be installing with apt-get that will give a basic useful system???

      apt-get install vncserver
should work, That's what I did and got working X with colinux.

      Read the section under
Launching X with a VNC server
      and
      Use VNC without XDMCP

I have read that section and apt-get install vncserver and apt-get dist-update vncserver fail to complete.  Are you talking about the same distribution that I have??
