Auto-update checker that runs in a background thread sometimes disregards any update frequency set by the user and request update information every time the program starts.
When the program checks for updates and there are none a bug causes the program to fail to record the date that the check was made. This means that, the next time the program starts it thinks that no check has been made for a while and makes one.
When an update is available the code works correctly and the date of the check is recorded, allowing the program to wait the correct interval before checking again.
