Stable Clonezilla live 1.2.3-24 released

We are happy to announce that clonezilla-live 1.2.3-24 is the new stable release. This release features some new functions, some new programs included, and some bugs were fixed.
* The underlying GNU/Linux operating system was upgraded. This release is based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2010/Jan/08). Linux kernel 2.6.32-4 is used.
* Updated partclone to 0.1.9-5, live-initramfs to 1.157.4-10drbl, syslinux to 3.84.
* Pakcages wpasupplicant, bind9-host and cdrdao were added.
* Language files were updated. Thanks to Juan Ramon Martinez, Alex Ibanez Lopez ,Jean-Francois Nifenecker, Gianfranco Gentili, Annie Wei, Akira YOSHIYAMA and Zhiqiang Zhang.
* New features:
* A boot parameter ocs_live_run_tty was added. It is used to assign the tty to run ocs_live_run. By default tty1 is used.
* An option to ignore CRC checking of partclone was added.
* Now clonezilla live iso supports grub2 iso loopback boot. Check Clonezilla website for how to edit your grub2 config file for this function.
* Boot menu is more compact now.
* The Clonezilla theme of usplash was added. However, it's not on by default. It can be turned on by adding "quiet splash" in the boot parameters.

[Call for testing] DRBL live

DRBL live has been in the beta status for a long time. Recently we have
some improvements so now it's about the time we can move it to stable
branch. Please help us to test it before it becomes stable.
DRBL live is a live system based on Debian Lenny. The same tech used to
created Clonezilla live or GParted live is used to create DRBL live.
Moreover, DRBL live includes:
1. DRBL server, the diskless server,
2. Clonezilla SE, the massive deployment server,
3. Clonezilla live, the disk or partition image or clone tool
4. GParted, the GNOME partition editor for creating, reorganizing, and
deleting disk partitions.

Experimental branch has been renamed as "Alternative" one

When we created Clonezilla live about 2 years ago, we named the Ubuntu-based branch as "experimental" one, yes, that was for experimental purpose then. Now it's not an appropriate name anymore. Since most of the cases this one works well. Therefore from now on we will use the name "alternative" for this branch.
For more info about the differences, please check:

Clonezilla live 1.2.2-14 (stable) released

We are happy to announce clonezilla-live 1.2.2-14 is the new stable release. In this release, we have switched to use partclone as the default imaging program, use newer kernel, and some other improvements, e.g. Mac OS disk to disk clone is support. The details:
* Based on Debian lenny repository of 2009/May/17, and kernel 2.6.29-4 from backports.undebian.org is used.
* Partclone now is the default program to save the image. It's also used in disk to disk, partition to partition clone.
* Ext4 is supported by partclone now. Therefore if you want to save ext4 system, remember to enter expert mode and use option -q2 so that partclone will save your ext4 partition. //NOTE// In this release, grub does not support ext4. Therefore if your /boot/grub is in ext4 partition, please try experimental Clonezilla live 20090517-jaunty.
* Option -z4 (lzma) was added for drbl-ocs, ocs-sr, and used in ocs-functions.
* New file name format for the image of partition was added. E.g. partiton sda1 was saved by partclone.ext4 with gzip compression is: sda1.ext4-ptcl-img.gz.
* Beginner/Expert modes were added. If beginner mode, the default choices in advanced parameters will be used automatically.
* Intel-based Mac OS disk to disk, partition to partition clone are supported now.
* Mounting HFS+ partition with "-o force" was added as an option in ocs-preproot. Thanks to Max Hales for this suggestion.
* NTFS support is turned on for partclone. Option -q2 is the default option, and ntfsclone will be replaced by partclone if -q2 is selected.
* Language files were upudated. Thanks to Alex Ibanez Lopez ,Jean-Francois Nifenecker, Gianfranco Gentili, Annie Wei, Akira YOSHIYAMA, and Zhiqiang Zhang.
* New upstream syslinux 3.80.
* Program makeboot.sh was polished. Now syslinux is run without "-s" so the created USB flash drive can boot faster.
* Force to ask inputting y/n option for most of the questions in ocs-onthefly.
* Program ocs-live-bug-report was added so it's easier for user to report bug.
* From this version, the released iso file is "isohybrided". Therefore you can use cat or dd to write the iso file to USB flash drive or hard drive. For more info, refer to http://syslinux.zytor.com/wiki/index.php/Doc/isolinux#HYBRID_CD-ROM.2FHARD_DISK_MODE
* A boot parameter live-netdev was add in live-initramfs so it can be used to assign the network device to get filesystem.squashfs when using with PXE server.
* An option to enter command line prompt to manually configure network settings was added in ocs-live-netcfg.
* Put save tasks and restore tasks menus in order. The mode of Clonezilla will be shown when inputting data or choosing parameters. Thanks to the suggestion from aikenann _at_ gmail com.
* When inputting image name or device name is cancelled, an option to exit was added. Thanks to Sam Russo.
* The interactive mode of ocs-onthefly will prompt the command and options so it's easier to be run in the command line prompt again.
* Start sector in the meta data of NTFS partition will be changed by partclone.ntfsreloc after restoring. Thanks to Curtis Gedak for the info and the testing results from Ceasar Sun.
* Submenu of syslinux/isolinux is used for memtest, freedos and network boot (in ocs-live-boot-menu).
* The command to create Clonezilla live iso and zip was saved to the file Clonezilla-Live-Version.
* Clonezilla image dir (/home/partimag) will be created when booting (in S03prep-drbl-clonezilla) so it can be a mounting point to be used in ocs_prerun directly.
* S06pre-run was improved to accept boot parameters ocs_prerun[[:digit:]]. E.g. ocs_prerun, ocs_prerun1, ocs_prerun2...
* Package w3m was added.
* Bug fixed - With "-g auto", we should try to find the grub config partition on the restored disk, not all the disk(s) on the system. Otherwise if there are more than 2 disks, grub-install might be skipped.
* Bug fixed: ocs-live-dev failed to use grub to create a bootable Clonezilla live device.
* A bug about partclone.ntfs "Current NTFS volume size is bigger than the device size" was fixed. Thanks to the bug report from njorl _at_ users.sourceforge.net.
