I am using clonezilla-live-20110618-natty over pxe. When I use the parallel bzip2 for compression, the pbzip2 settings causes pbzip2 to crash due to using up all of the available memory. The server hardware has 8 GB of memory but since the clonezilla-live-20110618-natty kernel is 32bit, only around 3 GB of memory was free before starting to disk backup. When the backup starts pbzip2 uses up all 3 GB of available memory within one minute or so (this is with an 8 core server so it may take longer with slower computers).

I originally though this was a bug with pbzip2 due to a previous bug with it but after creating the bug report for pbzip2 they pointed out that it was due to running out of memory. They had some suggestions on how to reduce the memory usage. The link the bug report and their suggestions is:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/pbzip2/+bug/799977

Also, is there any chance of creating a version of clonezilla-live-20110618-natty with a 64bit or PAE kernel?

I have removed "-b1024" in Clonezilla live 20110623-natty.
Could you please give that a try?

As for supporting larger RAM, I will try to create a 64-bit version, Ubuntu-based Clonezilla live in the future.

    Steven.
