1.In previous versions of Windows, selecting multiple files would display their total size in status bar. In Windows 8 this feature has been removed and is being greatly missed.

2.In Windows 7, with classic skins/themes, when your mouse hovers over application icons on taskbar, list of windows (instead of window thumbnails) would be displayed. This has changed in Windows 8, there is no way to turn thumbnails off. Instead of locating needed window by title - you have to look at thumbnails (generated at different scales), which are very not helpful. This feature is also being greatly missed.

    1. There is no way to fix this and I am extremely pissed off about this too. See this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/W8ITProPreRel/thread/b872130f-9470-4032-b659-d20afa5fcad4/ . My recommendation is to "upgrade" to Windows 7.

    2. There are two ways to turn the thumbnails into a list. One is a registry tweak (you will have to logoff and log back on):

      Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

      [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband]
      "NumThumbnails"=dword:00000001

    Using this tweak, you will get a thumbnail for one window but for more than two windows of the same program or grouped windows, you will get a list.

    Another way is to use 7+ Taskbar Tweaker and set it's "Hovering" option to List which turns it into a List even for one window.

    1. There is no way to fix this with a (registry)tweak. Developers have in their hands much more tools than simple tweaks.
    2. Well, it seems 7+ Taskbar Tweaks has implemented it using hooks.

    First program I installed on Windows 8 (after drivers) was ClassicShell. Switching to it would have been impossible without it. Developers' great work is much appreciated.

    When selecting multiple files I see the total size in both the Status bar and in the Details pane if it is turned on. (I'm using Windows 8 Pro with the latest updates installed.) I don't see this as a feature for Classic Shell.

    I think the details pane is capped at 100 files. If you select more it won't show the total size correctly.

    Classic Shellers, if you try the latest beta version of Classic Shell linked from the home page, it now has status bar features of Classic Explorer fully operational on Windows 8!! Ivo found a way out. :)
