I teach classes at a local SeniorNet. We'd like to be able to demo the advantages of Classic Shell (especially to students familiar with Windows that got a new Win 8 machine for Christmas :) but can't have it on by default.

Is there a way to turn CS on and off without a reboot? The reboot part is important as we run Deep Freeze and changes are lost on a reboot.

If you mean the start menu, you can simply right-click on the start button and select Exit.

The Classic Explorer component is trickier, because it is a shell extension and can't be unloaded. However if you run the installer again and chose Remove, it will restart Explorer if necessary.
