Is there any way to get the excellent new Search Box, fetured in the normal
Windows 7 menu in Classic Start Menu?

I love this software, makes my life easier - but I really miss the wonderful
search box that lets you search the web, or your PC.

    Any way to do this?
Or any way to make a Key Command on the PC that brings up the search box?

    Thanks

Go to the Search Box tab in the settings and enable it. Also read the Search
section of the Help carefully. It shows how you can set up searches for the PC
    and the Internet.

    Hi

Thanks for getting back to me

I have looked at the instructions but there's nothing I can see about using it
as the normal Windows 7 Search box

Is there an option to search the PC for files, or words in files?

Is there an option to search the internet?

I'd like to combine the old Vista menu with the excellent Search of Windows 7

    Thanks

It doesn't work like the Windows 7 search box. It's main purpose is to search
the start menu and the programs in your PATH.

You can hook external search programs like Google or Agent Ransack. Look at
the Search section of the help to see how.

@t8769, why don't you enable the cascading Classic menu for the Windows Start
menu. Go to Classic Start menu settings -> Click All settings radio button ->
Windows Start menu tab -> Check Cascading All Programs menu.

    Hello

    I've done this.

But I'm not looking to expand Programes.

I'm looking to get the Search box that comes with Windows 7 that allow you to
search the web and also files on your pc.

How can I put that excellent Search box into your menu?

    Thanks

There is no way to get the exact Windows 7 search behavior in the classic
start menu. The two menus are two separate
programs so difference in behavior is expected. In fact, one of the main
reasons for me to develop my own start menu 2 years ago was because I don't
    like the default search: http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/whycsm.html

If you use the "cascading all programs" feature of Classic Shell you will get
close - when you use the Windows 7 menu you will get the search box you want
plus the cascading menu for the programs. It is a compromise and it is up to
you to decide if it is worth it for you.

    HI

Thanks for getting back to me.

I do like Win7's search, as I can both search for items on my PC and the
    intenet. This is very convenient.

If you use the "cascading all programs" feature of Classic Shell you will get
    close

I'm sorry I don't understand this - how is it close.
Win 7 Search is for text, files and web.
The Cascading Programs is just for Programs.

    Have I got this wrong?

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks

    Tony

One of the main advantages of the classic start menu is that it shows a
cascading Programs menu, instead of trying to fit everything in one tiny box.
If that's the main reason you prefer classic over the default, you can get the
same cascading behavior in the default Win7 start menu. With the "cascading
all programs" feature you can have both in the default menu - the Win7 search
you want and the cascading menu.

If you prefer the classic menu for other reasons - looks better, more
customizable, etc, then this doesn't apply to you.

BTW, I will repeat - look at the help. It shows how you can hook external
search programs to the search box. This way you can extend the start menu with
Internet search or PC search. It won't be the same as the Win7 menu (like it
won't search as you type), but it will give you some search ability.

    Hello

    Thanks for your reply.

I asked before about getting the SEARCH box from Window 7 menu, in the
    ClassicStartMenu.

YOu mentioned the Programme folder, but I just would like the Search box.

Does this software provide the Search box?

I downloaded this software. How can I use it?

    many thanks

    Tony

The Classic Start Menu does have a search box, but it is not exactly the same
as the Windows 7 menu (in the general case you can't just take pieces from one
software and add them to another. would be great if you could though - how
cool would it be to put Tetris into Excel).

To enable the search box go to the Search Box tab in the settings and change
the first setting at the top. The Classic Start Menu search box will search
the contents of the start menu, the programs in the system PATH, the Control
Panel, and the God Mode items. It WILL NOT search the Internet, all your
drives, your mailbox, or under your bed. You can however extend it with
external programs like Google or Agent Ransack.

Well good news for you. Now the latest public beta version of Classic Shell which is available from the home page has full Windows Search integration, including file search. Try it if you are interested.
