Occasionally when I type in the search field (mostly "regedit") Windows would go into Standby mode, maybe because of some shortcut? It's really annoying.
OS: Windows 8 Pro x64
Can you observe and create the exact steps to reproduce the bug please? When you type in the search field, is the blinking cursor there in the search box? Does it steal keystrokes and instead the Shutdown menu opens? The keyboard accelerator key to open standby even if search box is not focused is Win key -> then u > then S. So it must be some other bug which is causing this. Some other user also reported it in the past.

Make sure on the Search box tab in Classic Start Menu settings, "Access normally" is selected and "Selected by default" is checked.
It is.
