When using Checkstyle in a development environment, there are many extra checks that I provide to the development team to encourage positive coding habits. These checks may be complex/expensive but are run locally so the load is distributed. When integrating the same Checkstyle integration into our SCM, we now have one central location running these set of checks fairly often. I would like to maintain only one version of the Checkstyle.xml file, but to be able to not run any checks below a certain severity threshold. The goal here would be to only run checks that can report errors as that is what blocks a code commit, and to not run the checks that produce warnings or info messages, as no one will be reading them.
