You know, I think it's a matter of definitions, locations of files, and the non-uniformity of setup that makes this difficult for me. For example, I can't think how I'd install an additional library (say we started using libtiff for screenshots). It's not wrong or impossible, it's just different. You have to admit, it's a little funny that someone's having a hard time figuring out a compiler like this. Normally, the bulletin boards are filles with "How do I get GCC to do this..." and "How do I add x to automake?". I seem to be the opposite. :) The goal of the exercise is to use GTK for windows and build gtkmain to run in a Windows environment. Some friends suggest that this is actually easier in MSVC than in MINGW, but I was hoping to make it a Christmas research project to see. It would be a neat proof-of-concept for one of the Celestia toolkits being useful over the full spectrum of operating systems. Also, unlike running under Cygwin, there should be a smaller penalty on using an extra layer on top of gdi. In general, that thread in the forums on using vs.net is useful. It wasn't yet back up when I started this thing. --Pat |
