Indeed part of the problem with Frank's document is that he is not using = the=20 Word stylesheet to manage headings. As a result, there is no way to creat= e=20 the TOC automatically, but even if you try and do it manually you'll noti= ce=20 several inconsistencies. They are there probably because Frank had no way= to=20 check out the document's structure while writting it. So the tool one cho= oses=20 does have an impact on the content, the choice is not innocuous. > As an aside, if Frank and I knew in advance that there would be so > much trouble and argument over converting our Word documents into a > Unix/Linux format, we probably would not have written either one at > all <sigh>. Of course, a Word document is far better than nothing at all, I'm not den= ying=20 that Frank and yourself have done a great job at writting that documentat= ion.=20 But looking at the formatting of the Word document I can't help but think= =20 that Frank has probably spent a lot of time formating it entirely manuall= y=20 (empty paragraphs, multiple spaces, tabulations...), probably a lot more = time=20 in fact than it would have taken him to learn how to use Word's styleshee= t=20 functions or another structured format. So spending a little time on this= =20 beforehand would have helped him save time in the end and produce a bette= r=20 content overall as well... -- Christophe |
