I'm making another list of tasks that remain for the 1.6.0 release of Celestia. Most of the remaining bugs are minor, but they'd be nice to clean up. I'll take care of the rendering issues. There are three FreeBSD bugs reported: one comes with a simple patch, the others seem like they may have already been fixed by changes we've made for Linux. If a Linux expert could just take a look at these, we might be able to quickly eliminate three bugs from the list. Is there anything else missing from the list? Is the state of the star database good after the latest revised.stc changes? The documentation seems to be in good shape, with just a final touch up to controls.txt remaining to be committed. --Chris Bugs: * CMOD rendering bug reported by Andrew (Chris) * Flickering of deep sky objects - Only visible on some OSes; appears to be a numerical precision issue (Chris) * Loading some 3ds meshes failes - Very simple fix for this that makes the 3ds loader slightly more permissive (Chris) * 2581786 : cel URLs not URL encoded - Spaces need to be encoded as %20, etc. * 2557612 : sun, planet, orbits disappear - Reported by Selden; I still need to investigate this (Chris) * 2555791 : compile error on FreeBSD - Patch provided in bug report--it looks like we adjust #ifdefs in astro.cpp so that a patch I made for MacOS X will also apply to other OSes. Need someone to make sure this doesn't break anything on Linux. * 2540424 : acinclude.m4 problem on FreeBSD - Is this related to the recent automake changes? (Is it fixed by them?) * 2499126 : build fails with libtool error * 2459894 : MacOS X - set time zone inverted * 2392876 : atmosphere shown for unilluminated planets (Chris) * 2332640 : garbled text in Windows solar system browser - UTF-8 related Data files: * Need to update Enceladus texture - Use new map from CICLOPS released in Jan 2009 * New Mercury map |

I think there is still a problem with Celestia crashing when level11 or level12 tiles are loaded. Remember lodspheremesh.cpp? On line 559 I changed 1.0e-6 to 1.0e-8. Thanks for reminding me! It's safe to commit this change--I looked at the code and found that the assertion isn't correct. We should probably remove it altogether. --Chris On Mon, Feb 9, 2009 at 11:48 AM, Steve Popovich <car...@ya...> wrote: > I think there is still a problem with Celestia crashing when level11 or > level12 tiles are loaded. That's exactly the line in lodspheremesh.cpp that I changed... I verified that the file was committed. I'm not sure what you mean. SVN works. The crash doesn't happen anymore. At Shatters.net/Developers Forum, I was just looking for further conformations in the case of different OS's or configurations. I wrote the e-mail below before this was committed? Thanks for looking at these, Pat. I took care of closing 4647. I also gave you, DW, Vincent, Andrew, and Fridger the necessary permissions for closing bugs yourselves (at least, I think I found the right setting.) It sounds like 2499126 can be closed as not a bug, while 2450424 needs some more investigation. Is that correct? I'm inclined to mark 2450424 as postponed, but I'll give the bug opener some time to respond to your comment first. --Chris On Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 8:05 PM, Pat Suwalski <pa...@su...> wrote: > Pat Suwalski wrote: >> >> Chris Laurel wrote: >>> >>> * 2555791 : compile error on FreeBSD >>> - Patch provided in bug report--it looks like we adjust #ifdefs in >>> astro.cpp so that a patch I made for MacOS X will also apply to other >>> OSes. Btw, if I comment AC_PATH_KDE in configure.in than all build fine (qt not tested, I have no qt4) on FreeBSD, so problem is that than after configure HAVE_STRLCAT_PROTO and HAVE_STRLCPY_PROTO not defined (and cant be defined because ui_kde=no). I'm not guru in autoconf and can't understand why in config.h included some proto-test from AC_PATH_KDE. I committed a fix for this bug (but I don't seem to have permissions to close the bug...) Details: The timezone combo box setting was only changing the hud display, and was being ignored when setting the time via the gui. Also, I fixed an unrelated bug where seconds were being rounded to the nearest second, resulting in loss of precision. DW, Thanks. I checked out your fix and it's working great. It looks like you corrected a TDB / UTC conversion problem, too. Just a FYI. Regarding: * 2540424 : acinclude.m4 problem on FreeBSD - Is this related to the recent automake changes? (Is it fixed by them?) acinclude.m4 also causes problems on the newest Suse release 11.1. When I build Celestia on 11.1, I need to delete acinclude.m4 and replace it with acinclude.m4.in from the admin folder. This is the solution that works for me, for the time being. Some of what is in acinclude.m4 (the libtool section) is not compatable with libtool files that come with Open Suse 11.1. As for copying the acinclude, that makes sense, since the rule in Makefile is to generate it like this: @cd $(top_srcdir) && cat admin/acinclude.m4.in admin/libtool.m4.in > acinclude.m4 --Pat |

I'll try and take a look at this tonight or tomorrow. It may be something as simple as running the "lipo" command on the Intel and PPC libraries. Ok, I updated the Mac xcode project in svn with spice support. Chris: could you check if spice works? DW, I just tested SPICE on the Mac, and it's working very well. It is very nice to have feature parity between the Mac and Windows versions of Celestia 1.6.0. Don't know if you saw, but some people from the University of Arizona posted on the forum a couple days ago--it sounds like the want to run a simulation of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission using the Mac version of Celestia. --Chris On Fri, Feb 20, 2009 at 8:30 PM, Da Woon Jung <dir...@gm...> wrote: > Ok, I updated the Mac xcode project in svn with spice support. > Chris: could you check if spice works?
