That looks like a pretty good way to do it if after tweaking those
properties, font-lock knows to re-color a region. It seems to be
described as though adding the properties should be done during text
Also, I was kind of hoping I could write a bit of code that was effectively:
"Color the symbol FOO some special color in this region"
as opposed to having to do all the searching and checking myself. Such
a setting would be fast and could happen in motion hooks or whatever.
If I have to do lots of searching myself, it will need to be postponed
into a timer or something. That just complicates things to where I may
not get around to it anytime soon.
