I see the same problem that started this email train and I'm most eager to remedy it, or at least work around it for now.

Perhaps instead of one "option bundle" there should be several with different levels of utility.  Possible option collections could include tag-lists (imenu), decorations (boundary, stickyfunc and attribute modes), smart-completion (auto-parse, smart-complete, eldoc), and debug (highlight changes, mode-line indicators)

That would make it easier for a 1st time user to pick his favorites.

The imenu variable to change for this specific problem is: semantic-imenu-auto-rebuild-directory-indexes.
