When ripping files from an audio cd on an external drive, CDex must store them somewhere on the computer. Where?
They're in a My Music folder in the CDex floder by default.
Click Options / settings / Filenames
Click the cog at the bottom of the icon column on the right and then click Filenames.
The fourth line on the left … WAV -> MP3 …. enter or browse the path to the folder where you want to store files.
The fifth line on the left … Recorded Tracks … enter or browse the path to the folder where you want to store files.

I have win7 and I have found my music in the folder:
If you do not change the default location, they are stored here:
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\CDex\my music\
