    Hello,
I'm blocked with one cdrom with 'Read Remote CDDB'.
I get this message but can't select NEXT button, only CANCEL:

The cddb text contains non-ascii characters, please verify if the characters in the preview listbox are displayed properly, when necessary change the code page selection.

    Thanks

  • Did you check the text and do as it requested?

    yes I do.
I tried to change all  lines to french (and also english), but nothing.
With another cdrom with the same message but without changing anything, the next button was ok.
I just tried it again (now), and the same thing happened.
I just forgot to say that before this, cdex ask to make a choice with 2 'freedb ID' (8909640a and  8a09640a if this help).
    Thanks

    Hello,

I have exactly the same problem with CDEx V01.70 Beta 4.

Did you find the way to fix that problem ?

    Thank you for your answer.

something that works for me with a handfull of german cd's in the 1.70 beta4: don't use the cddb (so push the cancel button) and choose the "Read from MusicBrainz" in the cddb tab .
Hope this will help you as well.

Update: I hit some CDs where my workaround above doesn't work, so for this time I try to switch back to the stable version. Sry.

Yes I have the same problem.  There is a bug in the tracker here: "Non-ascii characters from Freedb - ID: 2918727".
snl999, thanks for the MusicBrainz idea, it does work in some cases where CDDB fails.

  • Same. is this solved ?

same problem here.  It worked with 1 cd the other day, but not working with a cd today.  The MusicBrainz workaround worked for this cd.

    1.70 beta 4 in Ubuntu using Wine 1.2 rc4

    Workaround

    - Download ShoWin from Foundstone
    - start it
    - check "Enable/Disable"
    - click the crosshair with your left mouse button and hold it down
    - drag the crosshair over the grey "next" button, still holding down the left mouse button
    - do a right-click (while holding down the left mouse button)
    - release mouse buttons

    I have the same problem.

And the ShoWin link does not work for me. :-(

    Anything else to try?
