Note that if you want to develop something that's incompatible with
ASDF yet has a migration path from ASDF, you might be interested in
hacking XCVB. It's not production-ready yet (and it currently depends
on ASDF to be installed itself), but it does its job and brings
interesting new features like separate compilation.
