Feature Freeze for 2.3 Development Branch

I have implemented a tentative feature freeze for the 2.3 Development Branch, prior to creating the new 2.4 Stable release. The requests 1706660, 1711614, and 1711962 should fall within this release, as well as most / all reported bugs; all other requests will likely be pushed back to the 2.5 branch (although I may make an exception for items which potentially can do a lot of good, but which do not change much in the model / interface).... read more

Debian package added to Development

A Debian package (Buddi.deb) has been added to the Development release. This includes a launch script which allows you to run 'buddi' from the command line to launch, and automatic integration with Gnome / KDE menu launchers (so you don't have to use the command line any more to launch Buddi). The working directory is now set to ~/.buddi, so it will not store your Languages folder in ~/ anymore. (You can change the working directory by modifying the launch script.)... read more

Import from CSV Plugin - Bank Data Needed: Please Read!

igx89 has graciously volunteered to create a CSV import plugin. However, he needs information on the CSV format which banks use to make this plugin as robust as possible. If you can, please submit the information he requests to this forum thread: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4152261

The more people who give him this information, the more banks will be supported and the end result will be better for all. Please take the time to help in this project! ... read more

Version 2.2.0 Stable Released

After months of work, I am proud to announce the release of the 2.2.0 Stable version. This version includes the addition of a much nicer Scheduled Transactions dialog, plus a better display for Accounts and Budget Catgories. While there are not more major changes, long-time users will notice many small GUI tweaks and improvements, such as a more intuitive transactions window layout, etc. I feel that this release represents a real improvement over the 2.0.x line.... read more

Development Version 2.1.13 (2.2.0 RC4) Released

RC4, with the following changes:

-Fixed bug which could potentially corrupt data files
-Fixed bug which did not allow loading of plugins on Windows
-Added Javadocs to all methods in DataInstance, to better help plugin developers
-Fixed GUI bug where dialogs for creating / editing Accounts and Categories had large gap if there existed Accounts / Categories with very long names
-Added method to TransactionFrame to allow adding multiple transactions at once. This should avoid the need to update the window multiple times for simple imports.

Development Version 2.1.11 (2.2.0 RC2) Released

The second release cantidate. This release fixes the following problems:

-HTML export not working on Windows (still needs testing - I don't run a Windows machine at home)
-Color of highlighted text on Windows should no longer be black (still needs testing as well)
-Changed the layout of the cells in the Transactions window, to put the amount and the balance on the same row. This should make it easier to read. I also change the color of debits (negative amounts) to be red.... read more

Development Version 2.1.10 (2.2.0 RC1) Released

I just released 2.1.10 Development today. I have implemented all the features that I plan to include for the 2.2.0 release, and have fixed all the outstanding bugs. Please take a look at this version, and tell me anything which is not working properly. If everything seems to work well for you, let me know that as well.

If you have previously submitted a bug report / feature request which I have included in this release, please test that area with extra thoroughness.... read more

Version 2.0.5 Stable Released

Version 2.0.5 includes a fix for a bug which could have resulted in incorrect reports. When you modified the name, starting balance, or other attribute of an Account, the creation date attribute was reset to the current date. This excluded that account from being in time sensitive reports, such as Net Worth.

It is recommended that all users of the Stable branch upgrade to this new version.

-Added the option to prompt for which data file to use at startup
-Many small usability enhancements, as suggested by Buddi users... read more

Version 2.0.3 Stable Released

I generally try to avoid releasing multiple stable versions in a short time period. However, a new bug had slipped through my pre-release testing in version 2.0.2. Shortly after release, numerous people pointed it out to me; as soon as I saw that there was a problem, I released the 2.0.3 version to correct it. Sorry for the inconvenience, especially for those who upgraded to 2.0.2 only to find that they had to download another version immediately.... read more

2.0.0 Release Cantidates

I am getting ready to release version 2.0.0 of Buddi Stable. This includes several improvements over version 1.8.

If you have the time, please download and test this new version before it is released as a Stable version. Please email me or open a bug report for any issues that you find.

The one most people will notice is a complete re-write of the the Transactions window. This resulted in *much* better performance (on my machine, it now takes about half a second to open a transactions window with hundreds of transactions in it, whereas it used to take 5 or 6 seconds). As well as performance, this helps improve the usability of the interface when using multiple transactions windows at the same time.... read more

Version 1.8.0 Stable Released

1.8.0 (Sept 30 2006)
-The addition of a built in, transparent encryption scheme for Buddi data files
-A pluggable reporting system, which allows third party developers to add custom report types
-A Windows-specific distribution package, which includes a single .exe file. This has the advantage over the previous .jar of showing the proper icon in the toolbar, running under the process name 'buddi' instead of 'javaw', etc.
-The bundling of Language files into the executable, helping prevent problems related to an incorrect working directory
-Rotating backup files, instead of relying on users to delete old backups
-Numerous UI improvements, such as:
--Reports and graphs being automatically updated whenever the data changes
--The removal of the Mac-specific LNF and logic from the Windows / Generic bundles. This allows for a more native design, as well as a smaller file size
--The ability to specify a specific java LNF at startup, via the --lnf command line option
--General UI cleanup, with a special focus on ease of use

1.8 Stable Release Date Approaching

I am nearing the 1.8 Stable release, and once again am asking for testers to verify the stability of the current development package. 1.8 will bring a host of new features over 1.6, including:
-Built in data file encryption
-Pluggable reporting system to allow third party developers to add custom reports
-Bundling of langage files into the .jar; now you don't have to worry about the working directory when running Buddi (you can still override a language file by putting another one with the same name in the Languages directory, just as before)
-There is now a .exe for Windows (it still requires Java, but now it helps you download it and shows the correct icon in the task bar)
-Many UI improvements, especially for Windows and Linux (I use some platform specific logic to set up Buddi's windows in the way you would expect for that OS).... read more
