    Hi,

For the last couple of days, BTProx won't start anymore. It keeps giving me a
windows that goes away so quick it's almost impossible to read it: "Bluetooth
Proximity Lock has stopped working, Windows is checking for a solution to the
    problem..."

    I tried to:

    • start BTProx in quiet and normal mode
    • reboot my laptop (Win 7 x64 on an Asus with a BlueNEXT BT dongle),
    • uninstall and reinstall BTProx
    • Start BTProx without BT dongle

    any ideas?

    Laurent

I've been playing about with my BT dongle and BT settings, but just can't find
what's different that makes BTProx fail.

    Unless it's a Windows update?

Just wondering if there was a way to log what happens to help troubleshoot?

Do you see something strange in Windows logs?

Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Event Log -> Windows Log ->

I've added some diagnostics code to help me find the problem. Do you care to
use it? Just replace files in your BtProx installation folder with the ones in
    the archive.

    BtProx

This version should show a dialog if it crashes during initialization.

    Hi urk,

No dialog box I'm afraid. I get the egg timer when I try the run btprox, then
error message from Windows straight away.

Anything else you want me to try?

    Hi, Laurent.

Sorry, it takes me a long time to respond. It's "that" time of the year. :)

I've uploaded a new version with even more exception handling.

The file replaced the older one here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/btprox
    /files/btprox.zip/download

Once again, thanks for helping me with debug.

    Hi Uri,

It's strange, I get the Windows error message straight away, even with this
    new version.

What the first thing the app does?

In the mean time I'll try to remove the BT drivers and reinstall them from
scratch, in case there's something wrong here....

Just to confirm, even with no BT dongle and drivers uninstalled, the app still
crashed on startup. Wondering whether it's BT related at all now...

    Hi, Laurent.

Do you see BtProx folder in you applicatino data folder? (file://%APPDATA%/)

If so, delete it and restart BtProx.

    Hi Uri,

I don't have any BtProx folder in %APPDATA%, however I have this folder in
    C:\Users\AppData\Local:

    Uri_Kogan(@gmail.c_
(I replaced the actual email address with
    , just in case :) )

I renamed it and it now works :) . Let me know if you want me to send you a
    copy of do any tests

Thanks again for your help with this

    Laurent

    Hi, Laurent.

It would be very nice to files from this folder.

There should not be any sensitive information in them (except for your
    Bluetooth MAC address).

I will try to reproduce the issue locally. I wasn't able to do this.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Uri,

Sorry I can't retrieve it anymore, must have deleted by mistake. If it happens
again, I'll be sure to send you a copy, even though I know the solution now.

Thanks again for this great app.

I'm using it in combination with autohotkey and I works like a dream :)

One improvement request / suggestion if you can: option to select " run the
release command only once PC is unlocked":

if I come back within reception range, BtProx will try and run my script which
will fail as I may have not unlocked my PC yet.

    Thank

    Laurent

    Hi, Laurent.

The issue with "run the release command only once PC is unlocked" is
    problematic.

The reason is the same as the one that does not allow me to unlock it.
Microsoft do not provide an easy way of unlocking or detecting current state.

    Thank you for suggestion though.

I've opened feature request and may get there sometimes. Though, there is no
    clean solution for the issue:

Hi Uri, I also had the same issue, uninstalled it for weeks before trying again. I have saved the appdata folder for btprox and attached it here. Removing the folder does fix the problem but clearly something else is wrong. I suspect I may have changed some options just before it failed but that was months ago and once it fails you cant get back it to check/alter the options anyway.

    Regards,

    Mark.
