Is there any way to create a set of 2d cross-sections, place them in space and create a nurb or other smooth surface across them? The sketcher appears to allow the creation of nurb lines, but I can't find a way to create a "smooth" surface. As part of this, there would need to be a way to close the surface into a solid.

Thanks,
Scott

There is presently minimal support for 2D-centric modeling approaches within BRL-CAD. For the most part, even tools like the sketcher and extrusions are more for supporting imported geometries and basic viewing/editing. That said, creating an "extrude" object might be what you are looking for.

As BRL-CAD is a solid modeling system (and intentionally with minimal explicit surface boundary representation support), you normally wouldn't create a single surface, you create topologically closed solid 3D shapes directly. This can be done with extrusions, surfaces of revolution, volumetric modeling, or the myriad of other implicit primitive shapes with boolean operations. It depends primarily on what you're trying to model and for what purpose.
