Category: Analysis Group: next release >Status: Closed Resolution: Accepted Priority: 8 Submitted By: Dwayne (dwaynelk) Assigned to: Sean Morrison (brlcad) Summary: region and assembly presented area calulation Initial Comment: BRL-CAD needs a tool to accurately and quickly calculate presented area of regions at a given az el, very much like 'rtarea' and 'area', but with the capability to calculate the presented area of all regions displayed individually and an option to find the presented area of any assembly that is displayed. It seems like it should be a pretty straight forward adaptation of rtchecks bookeeping. Count the number of rays that hit each region/assembly, multiply by the pixel size, then list in a user friendly way. e.g. for regions Regionname1 xxx.xxxx square units Regionname2 xxx.xxxx square units . . . A useful extension of this tool would be to allow the user to parse the data by assembly name. This could be done in two ways: 1) the sum of the areas of all of the regions in an assembly, and 2) the presented area of the assembly as a unit. Both of these numbers (and the ratio between them) are of use to the V/L community. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Sean Morrison (brlcad) Date: 2005-06-22 22:34 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=785737 This feature is now implemented in the latest CVS and should be included in release 7.4.0.
