I see some work was done a few years ago by Ben Poole
http://bricad.org/Beset_Overview.pdf; has there been any further progress
    on this front?

It seems that this topic is on Sean's project-ideas page with a line thru
it, which might mean that it has been implemented.

    Cheers,
    Chuck

Oh, and "Wow! Great project, BRL-CADders!"

Hi Chuck, thanks for the kind words.

Ben's project predominantly explored the notion from my ideas page and did provide a proof-of-concept implementation showing it had promise as an approach. That's the only reason it was removed from the ideas page.

The implementation never progressed into a production-quality capability but the code and demo do still exist, waiting for someone to pick it back up. If you're interested in working on it, I'd be glad to help you decipher the code. I think the algorithm would benefit greatly if it used simulated annealing to explore more variety on top of the overarching genetic algorithm being used.

    Cheers!
    Sean
